There is nothing more satisfying than acquiring a new skill and only a few weeks ago, I learned to knit. I found out about the free workshop simply by receiving an email update from a local community group.

The lady who offered to host the knitting evening had lots of fabulous supplies. The event was free of charge but I still took wool, lace and ribbon as an offering - a small token of thanks. It was my way to show appreciation for her time and knowledge.

Some of the group used cut-up carrier bags and knitted the plastic strips to make recycled shopping bags.

My first attempt at crochet. :)

I was rather pleased with myself as I had managed to learn how to crochet within half an hour and would encourage everyone to sign up to their local crafting club's email newsletter.
Recycling initiatives and your local craft groups are a useful source of information and advice. If you are lucky enough to be in a town which has a transition group, sign up to their newsletter asap as you never know when an email offering a free workshop might land in your inbox.
To explain it a bit more, have a browse on the Wiki site:
There are free workshops and hourly courses on offer for all sorts of crafts. If you have a Hobby Craft near you, sign up to their newsletter as they regularly host events with very talented crafters hosting and sharing their hints and tips.
Have a lovely day.
