Winter still has its chilly grip on us but if you wanted to bring a splash of colour to your bedside table, why not pop a single bloom in a vase. What a beautiful sight to wake up to.

Buy one fabulous, blousy bloom such as a silk rose. Find a vintage bottle and pop it on your window sill. It is a charming sight in the middle of winter.

One flower in a vintage ink bottle is super-chic and super-cheap to arrange.

This little tank vase has a single ranunculus and is £6 in my local garden centre but you could create your own for half that!

If you buy silk, your choices are huge. Visit your largest local garden centre and have fun experimenting with their selection.

Go for elegance with a single anemone. I bought this pink anemone for 59p.

*Tip: Look for Victorian ink bottle or vintage medicine bottles. They can be found for a few pounds.

The best part of this project is taking an hour to browse in an antiques and collectables shop or second-hand emporium. This German lavender bottle is over 100 years old and I love the crown stopper.
