Christmas is only seven weeks away and if you wanted to give someone a very special gift, why not commission a handmade bear for them? Apart from a bear-making course, I cannot think of any other gift which would be perfect for a friend who collects bears or vintage toys.

A bear-loving friend or a niece would cherish a bear with her name and now is the time to contact your chosen/preferred bear artist. You can spend anything from £40 to £400 depending on the chosen materials.

Old Velvet Bear (Rose) was handmade from brown and rose vintage velvets. She is five-way jointed and has a tummy full of beans as well as honey and Nanny Mary's sponge cake.

Commissioning a bear is really not that expensive and for less than the cost of a take-away for four, you can have a bear made for your niece or nephew.
Old Velvet Bear's 'adoption fee' was £40 plus postage within the UK.

Old Velvet Bear was made by a lady I met on Etsy and she happily took another commission which was for a pair of sister bears but I will show you them on another day.

The lady who made this bear also makes lovely rag dolls in cottons and prim fabrics. She is able to make small scruffy mohair dogs as well as elephants or clowns. There is no harm in asking as a bear artist will always try to bring forth your ideas.
